Government against indiscriminate killing of sharks

Tuesday 23.8.2011: The government of Seychelles has reiterated in a Press Release today that it is against putting a bounty on sharks and the indiscriminate killing of sharks.  It has reaffirmed the fact that it will apply internationally accepted best practices to address the problem based on advice from the shark experts.

“This is good news for conservationists, who greatly sympathize with the family of the victims and understand the impact of  the attacks on the tourism industry, but were concerned about the wholesale slaughter of  sharks and other marine animals,” said Nirmal Shah, the CEO of Nature Seychelles.

Two shark Experts, Mr. Geremy Cliff and Mr. Michael Anderson-Reade, from the Kwazulu- Natal Sharks Board have arrived in Seychelles to assist the Government of Seychelles with comprehensive prevention and safety measures, elimination of the potential danger  and identification of other contributing factors.
