Subios underwater Festival: A new and Emerging Dimension of Ecotourism
The 2005 sub-Indian Ocean Seychelles (Subios) festival was held for
17th to the 22nd of May 2005. The aim of the annual event was to
attract more visitors during the period of low season.
The festival was officially launched by Vice President Joseph Belmont in the presence of the president of the Republic, Mr James Michel, other ministers and representatives of other organizations involved in the festival. Mr Belmont stated that Subios was an annual eco-tourism activity that was here to stay. Hew called upon all stakeholders to” join forces to enable our unique and priceless underwater treasures to become a major asset for the country’s marketing mix and further widen our economic opportunities.”
The opening ceremony was followed by public voting of this years underwater photo and video contest produced around the theme: Preserving Underwater Homes.”
The festival saw the participation of many dive centers round the island as well as individuals both locally and from overseas. It was an opportunity to see fantastic images of the underwater world through films and photographs. Other activities such as craft bazaar, boat rides open air film shows, creative writing competition formed part of the festival.
