The Guardian Newspaper's The Report has today, Thursday, 2 February 2012, published a 24 page Special on Seychelles. Produced by the Report Company, it looks at the Country's investment, foreign policy, finance, energy, environment, sustainability, tourism, leaders, infrastructure, education and fishing. Dr. Nirmal Shah, Nature Seychelles Chief Executive was one of the people interviewed for this report. His Q & A appears here.

The eighth edition of the Seychelles Seabirds Group newsletter is out and is available for download. This issue contains some more exciting news on seabirds from different islands where seabirds are monitored. From Aldabra, we have the results on the census conducted on frigatebirds. Sooty terns are well represented in this issue, with an article from Aride Island on the special characteristics of that bird and an update on the sooty tern project on Denis Island.

BirdLife International (Nature Seychelles in BirdLife in Seychelles) has called for urgent political action to be taken at the United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place in Durban, South Africa. BirdLife wants the world’s governments to commit to the deep and fair greenhouse gas emissions reductions needed to limit dangerous climate change to a level that gives people and ecosystems a fighting chance to adapt.

The meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical, and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) held from 7 to 11 November 2011 has agreed to initiate work on ecosystem restoration, recognizing that restoration is an essential element of the package of activities that will be required to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-202.
