BRINGING THE SEYCHELLES SHEATH-TAILED BAT BACK FROM THE BRINK

The Sousouri Bannan or Seychelles Sheath-tailed Bat is possibly the rarest bat in the world. It is also an endemic of Seychelles, which means that the estimated 70 individuals that exist in the world are only found in Seychelles. Although historically it was found on four granitic islands - Mahe, Silhoutte, Praslin and La Digue - it is now believed to occur only on Mahe (around 40 individuals in three roosts) and Silhouette (32 individuals in one roost).

ZWAZO 19 IS HERE!

Zwazo issue No. 19 is out. Zwazo is produced bi-annually by Nature Seychelles and distributed in hard copy. Issue No. 19 focuses on people, birds and small islands. In its editorial titled "the Birds and the Buzz", we tell you why there's been so much "buzz" about the birds of Seychelles. We tell you how "the little brown job", the Seychelles Warbler, saved from extinction through conservation action on Cousin Island, became the rallying point for rescuing other species and helped save seabirds, lizards, sea turtles and coral fish.

COUSIN ISLAND: SAILFISH FOUND ASHORE!

August is almost here and the howling South East Monsoon winds are upon us. It is nearly time for the popular one day Sailfish tournament which will be hosted by the Seychelles Sports Fishing Club on Saturday 5th September. During this tournament, numerous anglers take to the seas with rod and lure in search of the elusive sailfish, the fastest of all fish and probably the most valued game-fish species after the blue and black marlins - the “Holy Grails” of sport fishing.
