The joys and challenges of working in a biodiversity paradise: A personal diary (Part Two)

Living on Cousin Island Special Reserve can be challenging at times, not that anyone believes you when you complain about the heat or the mosquitoes but that is the price you pay for living in paradise. We collect drinking water from the neighbouring island of Praslin and the tap water on the island comes from a well in the central marsh area, the water gets pumped up the hill to a reservoir and from there travels to each of the 10 houses on the island.

Nature Seychelles works to protect and understand the marine ecosystem around Cousin Island Special Reserve. Two large projects have been underway in the marine reserve. Researcher, Tove Jorgensen, together with her team is investigating herbivore fish movement around Cousin Island using the latest technology in acoustic methods by tracking fish and mapping the seascape. 

A new flow of life into The Sanctuary

For the last few weeks, Paul and Lavelu have been working on clearing up the channel from the sea to have a constant fresh flow of water coming into The Sanctuary (Roche Caiman). And as it happens, a new flow of life has also been swimming in through the channel…

What will september bring?

The end of the August green health challenge is just the beginning of a healthy lifestyle.

“I finished my August with a walk last night that included a buzzard flying over our house, bat watching, a beautiful crescent moon and a lovely glow from the setting sun. What will September bring?” That was a comment by Fran Collins a fan of Nature Seychelles Green Health facebook page. Her comment was in reaction to the just ended August Green Health Challenge.
